Active Learning Classroom (ALC) Request

You must complete this form to request an Active Learning Classroom (ALC). Learn about ALCs on the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) website.

We can only fulfill some ALC requests each semester due to the limited number of these spaces. A committee reviews, prioritizes, and approves requests based on the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated use of ALC classroom space and equipment
  • Demonstrated emphasis on active learning in the curriculum
  • Participation in ALC programming focused on improving teaching and ALCs
  • On-time submission of the ALC request
  • Use of standard class teaching day(s)/time
Following prioritization, classes are scheduled in ALCs to fulfill as many requests as possible. Instructors will be notified when decisions are made. Room assignments are reflected in WebFAC and online course listings

Please be specific and check the accuracy of your entries, particularly your preferred teaching day(s)/time. At least one preferred class must match the day(s)/time in course listings. Representatives from the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of the University Registrar may follow up on your request if more information is needed.

Due to the popularity and limited number of Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs), only courses adhering to standard meeting days and times will be placed in these spaces. To ensure maximum utilization, classes offered at non-standard teaching times will not be assigned to an ALC. See the Classroom Scheduling Policy for more information.
Please rank your top 3 ALC preferences.

I agree to participate in a short interview at the end of the semester to debrief my experience teaching in an ALC.
(This will involve a short interview with CTL staff to provide insight into how instructors use ALCs and how each ALC could be improved. Participation in this debrief will increase your priority score in future ALC requests.)
